“Pan’s Labyrinth” director set to direct “The Hobbit”.

It was announced Friday that Guillermo del Toro, acclaimed director of films such as “Pan’s Labyrinth“, “Hell Boy“, and “Blade 2” would be taking over for Peter Jackson’s role as director for the cinema version of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit.

The film which is in pre-production is set to complete by 2010 will be filmed alongside it’s sequel still currently named “The Hobbit 2″. Peter Jackson fans should not panic however since he will still have a hand in the film’s creative process as executive producer. I would prefer Jackson to continue to direct the Tolkien films, but as a fan of Del Toro’s work, I am interested to see where he goes with them as well.

It has been announced that del Toro is signed on as director for the Doctor Strange film also to be released in 2010.
